General advice:

It is recommended to change your piece of jewellery only when the healing is finished (see the list below). When you put a new piece of jewellery on, remember to wash your hands well and apply some disinfectant!

Healing:

Lymph: Transparent secretion rejected by the body after a wound, which becomes a yellowy scab while drying, sticking around the hole of the piercing. To take it off, soften it by applying lukewarm water on it.

Initial healing: It is the requisite time for skin to grow inside the “tube” (hole). During this period, the tube is red, hard, and some lymph is often pouring out. It is during this step that the care is the most intensive and when you have to be really careful. The list below is showing the length of this first step, according to each place of the body pierced. These are average lengths; they can slightly differ with each person.

Total healing: The healing is complete when the “tube” becomes supple, white, and insensitive. It takes from 6 to 9 months. It therefore takes a few months ! The healing is never complete after one month, even if it seems like it.

A few tips:

- After having your tongue or your genitals pierced, avoid oral sex and sexual intercourse for 2 to 3 weeks.

- Avoid too tight or dirty clothes.

- Avoid friction created by clothes.

- Don’t go bathing in the sea or at the swimming-pool until healing is complete.

- Avoid spicy and acidic food during the inflammatory phase.
